The Daschund, more commonly known as the wiener dog, originated in Germany. There are 3 types of Daschunds which are the long haired, the short haired, and the wired haired. The wiener dog was bred to be a hunting dog. The catch rodents, stoat, chipmunks and squirrels.Even though they're smaller than some of their prey, they have a lot of confidence and determination.
They are known for their long odd shaped bodies. It has an enlarged head and short stubby legs. Their ears are usually long, big, and show relation to a floppy eared rabbit. It is a oddly shaped and unusual looking dog but it's very cute and loveable.
Weiner dogs have loving affectionate personalities. They have clownish, outgoing traits. Each type of dog carries their own personality. For instance, a long haired is calmer than the other two. But they are all wonderful pets. They are used to hunting small birds and rodents. They are becoming more of just a family dog now though.

They are great with children and families. They can be wild at times but very playful. They must be groomed regularly, trimmed, cleaned, and washed professionally. About one or two times a week, it is a good idea to just rub their fur down with a wet wash cloth.

They should also be brushed. They live for about 12-15 years. A lot of injuries are common with these dogs. They should not be made to walk up stairs a lot or jumping off of couches or chairs that are high to the ground. These things can break their back bones or spinal cords. So be careful and love your doxie.
