Walter Payton did not start playing football until he was a Sophomore is High School. Walter Payton became the greatest running back in history. When Walter played in 10 seasons in 1984, Walter broke Jim Browns career rushing total, Walter played 13 seasons with the Chicago Bears from (1975-1987) then he retired from his NFL career. Walter was 33 years old  only when he decided to end his season. He was a very young man when he retired. 

Joe Namath star Quarterback for the New York Jets, was getting to throw his first pass during the 1969 Super Bowl game against the Baltimore Colts. There was a bidding battle between the NFL and AFL. In 1965, when Joe Namath signed with the AFL's Jets he received about $400,000. 

  Tony Dorsett a fabulous running back in college, and in the NFL as well. Tony Dorsett of the Cowboys was a hiesman Trophy Winner at PITT. Tony did not open the 1977 season as a starter. Tom Laundry's said about Tony that he w3as the most dependable and the most gifted player.
