ERIC KOSTEN is one of the most technical skateboarders on the streets today. Sponsered by Girl Skateboards and Es Shoe Company, Eric has proven to be a great role model for young and up coming street skaters. Thanks to Eric, girl skateboards has become a very popular skateboard company and has recently made a skate video called "Yeah Right", the best skate video around, in my opinion. Eric Kosten, like most skateboarders, is native to California, the skating capital of the world. Eric's style is like no other. It consists of "technical" tricks, ones that involve a lot of flipping, spinning, and  grinding the skateboard. Eric Kosten is one of my favorite skateboarders and is becomin more and more popular as technical skating is emerging from "old skool" skateboarding, which leads me to Tony Alva.
TONY ALVA is the grandfather of sktaeboarding. In the early 1970s, Tony Alva and the rest of his crew, The Z Boys, in Dogtown , California, were local surfers. But as skateboarding started to become popular, the boys began to take surfing to the streets. This form of skateboarding was known as " sidewalk surfing". Soon, Tony Alva began a skateshop with his friends and along with it an amazing team called Zephyr. They skated empty swimming pools and carved around ;like surfers. No one had ever seen this type of skating which is why Tony Alva is considered the Grandfather of skateboarding. This was the beginning of vert skating, which leads me to Tony Hawk.
TONY HAWK the father of vert skating and is probably the most famous skateboarder ever. Tony was the first person to land a 900. It is a 900 degree spin in the air above a half pipe. You have to spin 2 and 1/2 times before you land. Tony has created the 900, the 540, and many more popular vert tricks. Now owning his own shoe and clothing company, Hawk, Tony has become a father of 2 and has accomplished many things in his life.
SHAWN WHITE , much like Tony Hawk, is a vert master. At only age 17, Shawn White is also a professional snowboarder. He is young, which makes him a great role model for kids. Shawn is known for doing some half pipe tricks that most older pros wouldn't even dare to try. His extreme talent in snowboarding is a key element in his success on the vert ramps.
BAM MARGERA isn't just a great street skater, he is also known of goofing around near the camera and even has his own tv show, Viva La Bam. Bam is mainly a street skater, but he is also know to rip it up on the mini ramps. He is also famous for his crazy tail drops.  Sometimes, he will climb up high on a pillar or ledge, set his tail on, and ollie off. Either skating or performing stunts, Bam is crazy!
RODNEY MULLEN is considered the father of street skating. Throughout his lifetime he has invented over 20 street and flatland tricks. Some street tricks he has invented are the kickflip, the heelflip, and the 360 flip. These are all very popular street skating tricks and without Rodney, none of these would exist. In the mid 80s, Rodney became very popular in the street skating world. Nobody could believe their eyes when he performed the kickflip because nobody  skateboarded like that. "Old skool" skating consisted mostly of close-to-the-ground skating like carving high on a bank. Now days, Rodney Mullen is known for his unique flatland tricks. These tricks are extremely hard, which is why he is idolized so much. So if you here that Rodney is in town, you might just be lucky enough to see him bust out a handstand flip.
