The main part
of BMX are bikes, which is what you do the tricks on. The thing that you
want the most going for you is a light bike, about 25 pounds or less, that
is strong enough to handle your weight. |

 |
One of the
heaviest components of your bike and most necessary are the forks. Second
to the frame, the forks are the second worse thing you want to have bend
or snap on you while you're riding. The forks hold the front tire to the
frame. Idea forks would be made out of carbon fiber, but if you are
inexperienced, they can break easily and also cost a lot. |
|
The frame is
the heaviest part of your bike. You want to have a light frame, which
should be made out of chrome molly or 7006 aluminum, which is as strong as
the material they build airplanes out of. You need to make sure you bike
has a good feel for you and is the right size. |

Another part
that doesn't really matter as much as the other parts of you bike are the
tires. You need to have the right type of tires for what you plan to do.
For example, you don't want knobby tires for racing and don't want
freestyle tires for dirt jumping. |
|
You need
a good set of rims to go with your tires too. You can get lightweight
aluminum rims if you are really good and don't case a lot. If you end up
bending your rims, it isn't really a problem unless they are severely bent
or dented. |
