Honus Wagner was born in 1874.  His first season as a pro, which was in 1895 when he was just 21 years old.  He started his career in Steubenville, Ohio in the Ohio State League, with his brother Al, but he had not been there very long when the club franchise moved to Akron, Ohio.  After only playing three games with Akron, Wagner and his club mates were shifted to Kent, Ohio, and from that place they soon moved again, this time to Mansfield, Ohio, in the Tri - State league.  Honus did so well at Mansfield, a guy named Taylor asked Honus if he would like to go to Adrian, Michigan, to play in the Michigan State League, to play for a club owned by his (Taylor's) brother.  He was playing pitcher, shortstop, and third base there.  He was 5'11 and he was 200 pounds.  He played 21 years in the National League as a Pittsburgh Pirate.  He was considered the most dominating player in the National League throughout the time he played.  Also he won eight batting championships, six slugging championships, and 5 stolen base titles.  He helped coach the pirates in the late 40's and the early 50's.  His 1909 baseball card is one of the rarest cards.  It is the most valuable card, it sold for 1,265,000 dollars.  Also he is part of the 3,000 hit club.  Honus Wagner was inducted into the Hall of Fame.  In many peoples eye is is the greatest shortstop ever.  He was named one of the top 100 players of all time.  Also many people think he is the greatest Pirate of all time.  There is a statue built in front of PNC park of him.  Honus Wagner was a very good and accomplished player.
