The Pirates of today are a different team than they were in the past.  With 12 straight losing seasons the current Pirates aren't necessarily the best team in baseball, but they are still enjoyed.  Let's look at the Pirates organization of today.

PNC Park

Today the Pirates home is PNC Park. This has been their home since 2001.  It is located on the North Shore next to Riverwalk Park.  It will be home of the 2006 All Star Game.

Management

The Pirates manager is Lloyd McClendon.  In the Pirates 119 year existance McClendon is the 35th head coach of the Pirates.  Before becoming head coach on October 23,2000 he was the Pirates hitting coach.  McClendon  had an 8 year baseball career as a first baseman.  McClendon is currently in his 5th season as Pirates head coach.  He lead us to a 281 - 365 record.

Kevin McClathy is the Pirates CEO, operating partner, and owner.  He bought the Pirates in 1996 at age 33.  Some of his successes have been saving the Pirates from being sold, building PNC Park, and acquiring the 2006 All Star Game.

Records and Playoffs

In the past the Pirates have not been very good.  They have suffered a 12 year losing streak which is the worst in MLB. Since 1993 the Pirates have not had a winning season.  In 2004 their record was 72 - 89 with a payroll of $ 32 million. The Pirates were the Division Champions in 1990 - 1992.  Since then we have had no luck.
