The British had a very complicated uniform that consisted of many parts. They wore: Shoes, stockings, briches, a shirt which was also their underwear), a whisket, a regimental, a neckstalk, a tricorn, a haversack, a canteen, a powder box, and gaiters. They also carried a bayonet, and a brown bess musket. Some of them carried axes as well, while officers only had a sword and sometimes a pistol. |

Tricorn-this hat was originally a round brimmed hat, but the hat got in the way when drilling, so the sergeants pinned up the sides to make what we know as the tricorn. It was later adopted as a style civilians wore. | |

Neckstalk- This kept their head in place to keep their eye on the goal. Civilians eventually wore this as well. It is also where the modern necktie comes from | |

Haversack- The men would keep their plates, dishes food, personal belongings., and sometimes maybe card or other various items. It was worn slung on the shoulder like a messenger bag. | |

Gaiters-these were wrapped around the legs and acted as boots. They protected the soldiers legs from snake bites and vegetation. They were made out of thick cloth. | |

Powder box-This carried the men's powder and shot, all wrapped nicely in a paper cartridge. This little invention proved to be a soldiers best friend, drastically decreasing loading time between shots. IT was worn on the side of the hip, strapped to the belt. | |

Regimental- A red overcoat worn by the British with colored facing and cuffs. Depending on the regiment these facing were different colors, for the regular standard regiment these facings were blue. While artillery on the other hand had blue coats with red facings. These were red because basically every country picked a color to represent their own faction . The British picked red while the French picked white. One reason they picked red was because it was one of the hardest colors to make, as well as expensive. Therefore by putting thousands of soldiers in red, this displayed Britain's tremendous wealth. Some also say that by having red coats, when soldiers were bleeding they did not notice the blood. | |

Canteen-This was made of tin, bronze, or wood, and was tied on a rope carried on the soldiers hip strung around his shoulder. It obviously carried the soldier's water. | |

Briches-These were leg garments that ended just below the soldiers knee. They were the soldiers pants and had 4 buttons at the top. | |
