Like Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page was also one of the great guitar
players. He is very influential in methods of playing the guitar. He doesn't
doesn't just play the guitar, he makes it sing and weep with his technique
and skilled hands. Page was an artist of great feats.
Jimmy Page was born on January 9, 1944 in the North London
suburb of Heston in Middlesex. He began to play the guitar at age 12.
He decided to join his first band called Neil Christian and the
Crusaders, instead of attending college directly after high school.
Sadly, Page fell seriously ill with glandular fever and he had to quit,
so he could recover. He was deeply discouraged, he almost quit music all
together, to take up his interest in art. He came to the conclusion to attend
art college in Sutton, Surrey.
When new bands like the Rolling Stones started, Page was once
again interested in music. In 1966, he accepted an offer to play with
the Yardbirds. to play with fellow legendary guitarist, Jeff Beck. The
Yardbirds split up in in 1968. Page decided to start a new band, whom
of which were dubbed the new Yardbirds. This new band consisted of
bassist, John Paul Jones, vocalist, Robert Plant, and drummer, John
Bonham. After the completion of their initial tour, they changed their
name to Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin made numerous classic rock albums. This includes
Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin 4, Houses
of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti. They started their own record company
called Swan Song. They even owned their own airplane. Page became a
heroin addict and his bizarre interest in the occult concerned his peers.

In 1980, the drummer of Led Zeppelin, John Bonham died. This caused Led Zeppelin to split up. After Led Zeppelin called it quits, Jimmy Page disappeared, and he could hardly touch his guitar for months after his band mate's death. It wasn't until 1982, that Page actually started to compose and play again. Page composed several songs for the movies, both Death Wish I and II, and also compiled outtakes for the Led Zeppelin collection, Coda. |
In 1983, Page Joined the Studded ARMS tour, which raised money for
| multiple sclerosis research. He compiled a new band, the Firm, with former Bad Company member, Paul Rogers. They decided to end it after their release of Mean Business. In July 1985, the 3 surviving members of Led Zeppelin and drummers Tony Thompson and Phil Collins united for Live Aid. In 1988, Led Zeppelin united again for another | ![]() |
performance. Page collaborated with former Deep Purple/Whitesnake
vocalist, David Coverdale. They only produced one album (1993's
Coverdale/Page), before breaking up. In 1994, Plant and Page an accoustic
album titled No Quarter. In 1995, Led Zeppelin was inducted to the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame. This was the second time Page had been inducted
into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, since the Yardbirds had been inducted

1992.
Page and Plant split up in the late 90's, but both musicians have left an impact that will forever change the face of music. Only time will tell what Jimmy Page has in store for us in the near future. However, I can tell you he will never be forgotten.
