You are about to embark on a journey, no an experience. An

experience of sound and life, like nothing you've ever heard before,

               The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Jimi Hendrix is probably the most influecial guitarist in early

distortion and the revolution of the electric guitar. His unique talent

is still admired today, 35 years after his premature expiration. This

legend will be forever immortalized in his masterpiece of recordings

               and albums.

It all started on November 21, 1942 in Seattle Washington.

Johnny Allen Hendrix was born. His name was later changed to

James Marshall Hendrix. At age 16, his father bought him a ukulele,

he encouraged Jimi to buy a guitar. Later that year, he acquired his

first guitar. At 17, he joined a band by the name of the Rocking Kings.

After an abortive stint in the army,        Hendrix hit the road with several bands as a backup musician for rhythm and blues artists, like Little Richard, the Isley Brothers, Jackie Wilson, the Impressions and Sam Cooke.

In 1966, Hendrix was discovered by the former bassist of the

Animals, Chas Chandler, while performing at a New York club called

Cafe Wha? with his band Jimmy James and the Blue Flames. Chas

Chandler became his manager and brought him to England. This was

where he changed his name from Jimmy to Jimi, for originality. He

also formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience with bassist Noel Redding,

and drummer Mitch Mitchell. The Jimi Hendrix Experience went on to

produce three major landmark records titled Are You Experienced?,

Axis: Bold as Love, and Electric Ladyland in only a one and a half year

               period.

His two most historical performances were at the Monterey Pop Festival on June 18, 1976 and Woodstock 1969. The catalyst of Jimi's career was at the Monterey Pop

Festival. That was the start of all his fame. Jimi had competition with

the Who, their performances were always exciting, they always put on a good

show. They would throw their instruments up in the air and

destroyed them. Jimi had to find a way to bring his

performances alive. So, he set his stratocaster guitar on fire. Sounds

simple enough, but this gave him musical domintation. After his

gig, he dominated guitar. Hi performance will never be forgotten.

Jimi Hendrix's other major performance was at Woodstock '69. This was where he performed his legendary rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner. The only Star-Spangled Banner to date, to be mixed with sounds of bomb echoes and taps, using only imagination

and a guitar. Hendrix's anti-war message was definitely delivered

with this moment that will forever define rock.

Unfortunately, due to drug problems and spontaneous fame, The Jimi Hendrix Experience broke up in 1969. Hendrix produced a double-album and debuted his new trio, Band of Gypsies, at Fillmore East on New Year's Eve in 1969. Sadly,  he performed his last concert at the Isle of Fehmarn, Germany on September 6, 1970. On September 18, 1970, Jimi

Hendrix died from suffocation due to inhaling his own vomit from

barbitude intoxication. His body was found at the Samarkand Hotel

in London at the young age of 27.

Though Jimi Hendrix is technically dead, he will be immortalized

in his thought-provoking lyrics and mezmerizing talent on guitar.

Many have tried to mimic his eccentric style and outstanding talent.

But, the truth is, there will never be another Jimi Hendrix.
