Jim Morrison was a poet, a dreamer. Who dreamt of snake, lizards,

and revolt. Mr. Mojo Risin ( an anagram of Jim Morrison ) as he called

himself, had a mind as wild as his insane behavior onstage.

Jim Morrison was born as James Douglas Morrison on December 8,

1943 in Melbourne, Florida. When he was about 5 years old, he was driving

through the desert with his parents. There was a tragic crash with a

truckload of Indians. It was the first time he had ever sensed fear. This

morbid moment went on to haunt his mind and greatly influence his poetry.

Jim's dad was an Admiral in the Navy. This caused his family to move

a lot. Also, he was taught to be strict and conservative. Jim did not even

show an interest in art until he attended film school at UCLA. He started

William Blake and even writing his own poetry. He met the Doors

keyboardist, Ray Manzarek, at film school in UCLA. One day on Venice

Beach, Ray and Jim begun talking and decided to start a band. They

decided to call this band the Doors, after a book by Aldous Huxley called

           The Doors of Perception.

The Doors went on to record numerous albums. Their legendary

song  "Light My Fire", was actually written by guitarist, Robby Krieger,

not Jim Morrison like most of their songs. However, Jim Morrison

was able to express his poetry through the magical, mysterious sound

           of the Doors' music.

There was one mad demon standing in his way though, and

and that was alcohol. Jim was an alcoholic. His behavior onstage became

so wild, obnoxious, and crude, that he got himself arrested for indecent

exposure and public profanity. Sometimes, he got so drunk that he would

fall off the stage or forget the lyrics to the songs and make his own

alcohol-influenced lyrics. Luckily, the keyboardist and Jim's friend, Ray

Manzarek would always have his back. When Jim was too drunk to

to sing or even stand for that matter, Ray would take over vocals

           imitating Jim's deep melodic voice.

Jim moved to Paris while he was on trial. He was hoping to focus on writing and poetry. Four months after moving to Paris, Jim was found dead in his bathtub. At the age of 27, he died of heart failure. Finally, all the drugs and alcohol had taken it's tool. He is buried in the Pere LaChaise cemetery, next to the "Poet's Corner" were many writers and peots were buried, such as Moliere, and Oscar Wilde.

Jim Morrison was a legend, the leader of the rebellion. His poetry revives the ancient greeks, echoes Native American Culture, and describes the mysterious life of the reptile. His legacy will never die. He was just a member of the Doors, he made the Doors with his creative, imaginary poetry.
