Alicia
Augello Cook was born on January 25, 1981 in New York, New York.
She grew up in Manhattan. Her name "Keys" comes from her
playing the piano since she was 7. She is bi-racial and her
grandmother is from Puerto Rican decent. She wrote her first song
at 14 years old. She graduated high school at 16 because of
outstanding grades. She says, "I was so deeply involved in
music, I had already outgrown all the pressure of high school cliques
and gossip." Alicia also plays the guitar.
Alicia is a 9 times Grammy Award-winner. The albums she has are "Songs In A Minor," from 2001, and "The Diary of Alicia Keys," from 2003. Her hit songs were "Fallin'," "A Woman's Worth," "You Don't Know My Name", "If I Ain't Got You", "Diary" (featuring Tony! Toni! Tone!) , and "My Boo" (w/Usher). Her song "Fallin'", and album "Songs In A Minor," were worldwide hits and successes. She was the 1st person signed to Clive Davis's record label J Records. Alicia also featured with rapper Eve (on Eve's song) for her summer smack hit "Gangsta Lovin'". Alicia has been a known Grammy-Award winner since she was 14. She has won many awards. The Grammy Awards she won were the following: Song of the Year "Fallin'", Best Female R&B vocal performance for "Fallin'" and "You Don't Know My Name", Best R&B Album for "Songs In A Minor," and "The Diary of Alicia Keys," and Best R&B performance by a Duo or Group with vocals for "My Boo" (with Usher) She has also won Soul Train Music Awards such as Best Female R&B Soul Album for "The Diary of Alicia Keys." Alicia also has won American Music Awards such as Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist, Favorite Soul/Rhythm and Blues New Artist, and Favorite Soul/Rhythm and Blues Female Artist in 2004. Some appearances that Alicia Keys was in were The 47th Annual Grammy Awards (as a performer) in 2005, MTV Video Music Awards, and MTV Asia Aid in 2005. Alicia Keys is a beautiful person. She was one of People's Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People and also one of their "Breakthrough Stars of 2001."
