scholarships offer from four nearby universities: Wichita State, Iowa
State, Lulsa University, and Oklahoma State. With help from his parents
Barry choose Oklahoma State. At Oklahoma State Barry did well in his
studies and enjoyed is time in the classroom. For two years, he was a
backup to Oklahoma States top runner, Thurman Thomas. Barry watched and
learned, and he also gained valuable experience returning kickoffs. He was
so good that in 1987 he led the nation with an average of 31.6 yards per

He wanted the starting running back job. Barry finally got that opportunity in 1980. He scored 37 touchdowns, which also led the nation. That year he won the heisman trophy. Everyone was amazed by Barry's incredible season. In 1986 he had 4.4 yards per carry, then in 1987 he had 5.7 yards per carry, then in 1988 he averaged 706 yards per carry.
