| There are many different
movements and steps involved in dance, especially ballet and pointe. Here
are some of the most basic ones.
|
| Pliés: Plies are ideal
for preparing your body at the start of class. Stand facing toward
the barre with your legs stretched, your shoulders and hips level, and
your body lifted. Bend your knees and try to increase the turnout in
the upper part of your legs without taking your heels off the ground, go
as far as you your ankles will allow. Continue to bend your knees
until your thighs are parallel with the floor. Coming up, replace your
heels as soon as you can without forcing them.
|
| Pirouettes: Pirouettes
end dehor and en dedans. Basic pirouettes usually begin in second,
forth, and fifth position. Stand in fifth croise your arms in
preparatory position and your head turned to look over your
shoulder. Demi-plié, life your arms slightly, and look into your
hands. Spring into retire position. Your arms in first, to
face the other corner. Find your center of balance, or axis, and
hold it strongly. Land in forth, fifth, or second position.
|
| Echappée: Start in
fifth position in a demi-plié ready to spring into the air. Open your legs
directly to second position, keeping your legs taut and you toes pointed.
Keeps your arms flexible but properly placed- simple and low. Land again
in fifth position in a soft but elastic-demi-plié. Stretch your legs to finish.
|
| Arabesque: One of the
most beautiful poses in ballet is the arabesque. To start with, you will
learn an arabesque parterre to find the correct placement of your arms,
legs, and body. The toes of your extended leg stay on the ground. Make
sure there is no weight resting on them. Keep your body well-lifted and
try not to lean forward, your right arm to the side. This is called the
arabesque croisse because your legs appear crossed to the audience. As you
get stringer you will lift your leg higher to 90 degrees.
