Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers came out in the late 70's.  The Heartbreakers were a tight and versatile backing band that provided the proper support for Petty's songs.  Tom wrote his lyrics lean and direct and started playing in High School.  In 1982, bassist Ron Blair left the group and was replaced by Howie Epstein. Tom Petty & The

Heartbreakers have come out with a great deal of songs such as "Free Fallin", "Mary-Jane's Last Dance", and "Don't Do Me Like That."  The band slowly broke apart but reunited in 1996 to record for the soundtrack of "She's The One."
Cyndi Lauper was one of the biggest stars in the 1980's.  Her debut album, "She's So Unusual" sent her to the top.  Born in 1953 in Queens, New York.  She Dropped out of High School choosing to sing in a number of cover-bands. In 1977, she began writing  her own material.  In 1983, she let out her debut album, which included her biggest hits "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", and "Time After Time."  Lauper even recorded for the soundtrack of the "Goonies."  However, in 1988, her career started to lose momentum.
The New Jersey based Bon Jovi, developed an ingratiating melodic and professional variation of hard rock.  The members spent most of their adolescence ditching school to go play music.  Their EP, and debut album was released in 1984 entitled "Runaway", became a top 40 hit.
They had many hit singles such as "Bad Medicine", "Livin' On A Prayer", "You Give Love A Bad Name", and "I'll Be There For You."  The band recorded through the 90's and continues to make music today.
Madonna moved from her native Michigan to New York in 1977.  Her first release, "Everybody", became a dance club hit in 1982.  Her second album, "Like A Virgin", was released in 1984.  Madonna became an international superstar, selling millions of records on the strength of her stylish, sexy videos, and forceful personality.  After her single "Material Girl", she began her first tour, supported by the Beastie Boys.  Madonna produced even more hits in the 80's and continues to make music today.
At the period of the 80's when pop dominated, Guns N Roses brought raw, ugly rock and roll crashing back into the charts.  The members were Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan, Steven Adler, and Axl Rose screeching about tales of sex, drugs, and apathy in the big city.  Their debut album, "Appetite For Destruction", was released in 1986.
The album included the G N' R classics like "Paradise City", "Sweet Child O Mine", and "Welcome To The Jungle."  Guns N' Roses music was basic and gritty, with a solid hard, bluesy base; they were dark, sleazy, dirty, and honest-all qualities in which good hard rock and heavy metal should have.  The Band today, Axl Rose being the only original member, continues to make music.
