Michael Dirnt, originally named Michael Ryan Pritchard was born on May 4, 1972 in Berkeley, California. Mike was born to a heroin addict mother and was put up for adoption.

When Mike was seven, his adoptive parents got a divorce, and he was stuck with the choice of who to live with. In the end he decided to spend his time equally with both parents.

In 5th grade Mike met and became friends with Billie Joe Armstrong. When Mike was 15 he rented a room in the side of Billie Joe's house and lived there. Mike was one of the original band members in Green Day, along with best friend, Billie Joe Armstrong.

Mike Dirnt has one child, a daugther named Estelle, born in April of 1997 to ex-wife, Anastasia. Even though Mike and Anastasia are now divorced he still gets along with her and visits Estelle as often as possible.

Dirnt plays bass  and sings back up vocals in the hit punk-rock band Green Day. He also plays other instruments, such as the farfisa, guitar, drums, bass and baseball bat. He has also played in bands other than Green Day, such as The Frustrators, Screeching Weasel, The Crummy Musicians, and Squirtgun.

Mike still plays bass in The Frustrators, but only when they can all get together for practices. (Which is hardly ever.) Mike can be seen playing his Gibson G-3 bass, hi Fender '66, which he has recently been playing, and his Fender '62 Precision bass. Mike uses Ernie Ball strings.
