| The hit punk rock band Green Day, was formed in Rodeo California in 1988. The original band members were Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt. In 1989 Al Sobrante was added to the group and the bands name was changed from Sweet Children to Green Day. Also in 1989 Green Day independantly released their first E.P. "1,000 Hours". Soon after the release of the release of their E.P., the band released their first album. "1,039/Smoothed out slappy hour", and band member Al Sobrante (a.k.a. John Kiffmeyer) left the group. The current members in the band are Billie Joe Armstrong, who sings vocals, and plays guitar, Mike Dirnt, who plays bass, and Tré Cool, who plays the drums. To date, the band has 11 albums out, 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hour, Angus, Kerplunk, Tune in Tokyo, Shenanigans, Dookie, Nimrod, Warning, International Super hits, Insomniac, and their most recent one, American Idiot, which was released on September 17, 2004. |
