History

The Maine Coon is one of the oldest natural breeds of cat found in North America. Also these cats are thought to be native to the state of Maine. Breeders believe the Maine Coon originated from the Angora and domestic shorthair cats. Another theory is this breed was brought to the United States by traders and sailors from Europe. The Maine Coon has been a popular cat ever since it was registered in 1861.

Physical Appearance 

The Maine Coon is an adorable breed of cat. They come in almost every color and pattern. In addition Maine Coon's are one of the largest breeds of cat. The males usually reach fifteen pounds and the females reach around eleven pounds. Although there is no proof some say some males can reach forty pounds! They also have large round eyes, thick silky fur and long bushy tails. Because of their tails many people think they are related to racoons but that is just a rumor.

Grooming

One of the reasons cats are such popular pets is because they are easy to maintain. Maine Coon's, like all cats, frequently groom themselves. Even though cats stay rather clean on their own, owners can bathe their cat occasionally. In addition their claws should be clipped frequently.

Feeding Requirements

Maine Coons like all animals need food to survive. You should feed your cat around one to two cups of food each day. Also the water bowl should be refilled as needed. Dry cat food is most commonly used. Also it is fine to feed your Maine Coon a treat once and a while.

Personality

The Maine Coon is an adorable breed of cat that loves people. These cats are also affectionate and make great companions. Maine Coons are also very friendly and get along with people and other cats.

Lifespan

The average lifespan for Maine Coon's is nine to fifteen years. These cats usually live to their early teen years. But, you never know how long your Maine Coon will live.
