Mario Lemieux was born in Ville Emard, Montreal. He was the first overall draft pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1984. He has played for the Penguins his whole hockey career in the National Hockey League. After helping the Pittsburgh Penguins win the Staley Cup for the second time in 1992, he signed a $6 million contract. In his rookie season he set many various records, one of which, he became only the third rookie ever to record 100 or more points in a season. |
| Mario Lemieux was huge reason why the Penguins won the Stanley Cup twice. Once in the 1990-1991 season and again in the 1991-1992 season. In the 2000 season when the Pens were going bankrupt Mario Lemieux bought out part of the Penguins to keep them in Pittsburgh. |
| Mario Lemieux is a part owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins. When he was drafted in 1984 he was 6 feet 4 inches tall, and 225 pounds. He also shoots right-handed. In the 1990-1991 season he missed the first 50 games recovering from a back surgery. | Mario Lemieux won the Conn Smythe Trophy in
the 1991-1992 season for the most valuable player in the playoffs. In
their final game of the Stanley Cup championship Lemieux scored a
short-handed goal to put the Penguins up by two. He then had three
assists to a final score of the Pens winning over the North Stars 8-0.
