Geddy Lee was born on July 29, 1953 in Toronto, Canada.  His birth name is Gary Lee Weinrib.  The name Geddy comes from his grandmother saying Gary with a heavy Yiddish accent.  He has legally changed his name to that.   Geddy Lee plays the bass guitar and keyboards for Rush.  He is also the vocalist and composes the music for the songs.  Geddy has been with Rush since their birth (in 1968), even before Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart joined.  Eventually Geddy was kicked out of the original Rush and he went on to form other bands.  After a few years of that, Rush's original drummer, John Rutsey, contacted Geddy about reforming Rush.  They did.  As a child, Geddy was inspired by the works of Jack Bruce, Cream's bassist.  Geddy is currently married.  His wife's name is Nancy Young.  They have two children.  Their son's name is Julian and their daughter's name is Kayla.  Geddy released a solo album in November of 2000 titled My Favorite Headache.  He enjoys sports like baseball and hockey, and has shown interest in coaching a baseball team.  He has achieved many things that most bassists don't.  He was inducted into the Bass Hall of Fame in Guitar Player Magazine.  He was voted best rock bassist more than six times, and he won Best Rock Bass player in  Bass Player Reader's Poll in 1993.
