Alex Lifeson, probably the most underrated of the group, was born Alexander Zivojinovich  on August 27, 1953 in Fernie, British Columbia.  Lifeson is the English translation of Zivojinovich.  His job for the trio is to play lead guitar and provide the backing vocals.  He also writes the music for the songs and has also written a few songs that have appeared on a few albums.  He is of Yugoslavian descent, his parents immigrated from Yugoslavia to Canada.  He started playing the guitar at the age of 12 and is pretty much a self taught guitarist.  Although, he did take lessons for a year or so once he joined with Rush.  As a child he was inspired by guitar greats like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, and Jimmy Page.  Alex is a founding member of Rush.  He met up with Geddy Lee in high school and they went on to form the early versions of Rush.  Alex has just recently released a solo album titled Victor.  He is married.  His wife's name is Charlene and they have 2 sons, Justin and Adrian.  In his free time he is a licensed pilot and a gourmet cook.  He also had interests in producing.  He helped produce 3 Doors Down's album, Better Life.  Alex won Best Talent in Guitar for the Practicing Musician award in 1983 and got inducted into the Guitar for the Practicing Musician Hall of Fame in 1991.  Lifeson will go on trial on May 16, 2005 for a little incident he and his son got into at the Ritz Hotel on New Year's Eve.  Alex's son was singing on stage and viewers didn't want him there.  Alex went up to defend his son, and the cops showed up.  Alex got his nose broken, and was charged for assaulting an officer.  If he is proven guilty, he could spend up to 5 years in prison.

*He was let off on probation and court fines.
