Ballet is not just a company of dancers. It is a presentation of dancing on stage. A form of grace, and a system of precise, graceful movements. The tempo in ballet can be fast, regular, or slow. It all depends on what ballet you are doing. To be a professional ballet dancer you must have years, and years of intense training.

Positions:

There are many movements in ballet. That require different positions. There are five main positions in ballet. They are: first position, second position, third position, forth position, and fifth position.

What to Wear:

You must however wear a leotard, and tights to every class.

If allowed you may also be able to wear a skirt over top of your leotard.

Over top of your leotard and tights, besides wearing a skirt, you can also wear warm-ups.

Over top of your leotard and tights, besides wearing a skirt, you can also wear warm-ups. Warm-ups are tight fitted clothing used to help keep and make your muscles warm. Since it is not good to dance with cold muscles, dancers my keep their warm-ups for for the first couple of combinations at the barre, unless the instructor tells you otherwise.

And then there is the classical tutu.

Many people think that ballet dancers wear tutus all the time, and even to class.

However tutus are only worn during shows when they are required with the costume.

You may also wear a contemporary costume, depending on the ballet being performed.
