Barry Sanders was a many of various skill.  He could run the ball, catch the ball, and even return punts every now and then.  He is one of the very few running back who have rushed for over 2,000 yards in one season.  Sanders, a 5-8, 200 pound, running back, was honored as the co-MVP, as he shared it with quarterback Brett Favre. 

   Sanders achieved 14 consecutive games with 100 yards and over, which set a record, after only getting 53 yards in the first two games of the season before that.  Barry is one of the top rushers in the NFL with 13,778 yards in his career.  Barry was the first rusher ever to achieve nine straight seasons with 1,000 yards.   

 

   Barry was selected to nine probowls and started each one.  Barry was drafted by the lions out of Oklahoma State in 1989 and then won the Rookie Of The Year award in that season.  He was a winner of a heisman trophy, the highest college football award ever achieved.  He received his award as a junior which was his last year before he turned professional.

   He set 10 NCAA records as a student in college. He got 3,797 total years in his college years and a total of 56 touchdowns during his college years.  Barry was a very compassionate man with a play by play donation.  This meant someone sponsored him and gave a penny every yard he gained each play.  The profits went to a donation for the special Olympics.

   Barry Sanders was a very successful running back for the Detroit Lions Who plans on living out the rest of his life watching football and teaching his son how to play football.  His son Barry James jr.  was born on July 16 ,1968.  He plans on playing professional football like his old man, Barry Sanders.
