Chesapeake Bay Retrievers

Golden Retrievers

  Description-

The Labrador Retriever is the most popular dog in North America.  Labradors are called Labs for short.  They are very friendly dogs.  They are reliable dogs that bark but usually don't bite. Labs come in 3 colors.

They are black, chocolate, and yellow. Their coat is usually thick and straight.  Most labs are calm and obedient.  Labs were developed in Newfoundland, Canada.  Labs have different tails from any other breads.  The kind of expression on their faces are one of the gentlest and most intelligent of all breads.
  Guide Dogs-

Many labs are guide dogs for the blind.  More than one-third of all guide dogs in North America are labs.  In England two-thirds are labs.  In Australia all guide dogs are labs.

Blind people like labs because they are big enough to take the lead but not too big to handle. Though they are usually obedient, labs know to disobey a command if they see danger.  Some labs are trained as signal dogs for deaf people.  When the dog hears such important sounds such as a alarm clock, smoke alarm,
or a crying child, it runs between the sound and its owner until the person notices.  If the person is asleep the lab will nudge the person awake.  Other labs work as service dogs for disabled people.  They bring mail, turn lights off, and retrieve things.
