Life Story

   Bobby Orr began skating at the age of four. He skated on the Seguin River where he practiced for several hours a day stick-handling, and skating. Organized hockey began for him at the age of five. By the age of twelve, he was playing uup four years. His role model growing up was the montreal Canadien defenseman, Terry Harper. In 1960, in Ganonoque on the Saint Lawrenece Seaway Bobby's team played in a tournament where all six NHL teams sent scouts. This is where Bobby was discovered and signed by the Boston Bruins. At the age of thirteen he played for Boston's Junior A team, the Oshawa Generals. Bobby Orr quickly dominated the league even though he was playing against 19 and 20 year old men. He had 4 all-star seasons with the Generals. When Bobby Orr signed with the Boston Bruins, he got 50,000 dollars for two years and a 25,000 signing bonus.

 

Teams

   Bobby Orr spent most of his NHL career playing for the Boston Bruins. He started his career off in Boston in the 1966-67 season as a rookie. He continued in Boston until the 1975-76 season. After the 1975-76 season Orr went to  the Chicago Blackhawks. He played there from the 1976-78 season until the end of his career in the 1978-79 season. Orr only played in Chicago for two seasons because he didn't play in the 1977-78 season due to a knee injury. This knee injury eventually cut his career short.

Stanley Cup Appearances

  Bobby Orr's first Stanley Cup appearance was in the 1970 Stanley Cup. Boston won the Stanley Cup in a series sweep. Orr scored the winning goal in overtime in game four to end the series and give the Boston Bruins the title of the Stanley Cup champions. His second appearance was in the 1972 Stanley Cup finals. The Bruins clinched the cup the series in game six of the series. During this series  Orr shared the scoring lead of 24 points with his teamate Phil Esposito.

Best SeasoBest Season

During the 1970-71 NHL season, Bobby Orr dominated the league. This was by far his best season out of his career. During this season Bobby Orr grasped the NHL single season record for a defenseman in assists with 102 assists! He also got the NHL single season record for the best plus/minus ratio in the league with a astonishing +124! During this season Orr really brought the game to a new level. He opened the eyes of the NHL to what he was capable of.

 

Records/ AwardRecords/Awards

In the 1967-68 season, he won the Norris Trophy for the NHL’s best defenseman. He continued to receive the reward for the next seven years. Orr became the first defenseman in history to win the NHL scoring title with a 33 goal 120 point season, the first of six straight seasons with 100 points or more in the 1969-70 season. He also won the first of his three Hart Trophies (NHL’s MVP) that season and followed it by earning the Conne Mythe Trophy as playoff MVP.
