Genetically
modified foods can create environmental concerns.
The genes and DNA used to modify the crops can spread completely
out of control.
Once this bacteria s out it can never be recalled and can spread in
and onto crops that weren’t intended to be genetically modified. A study
shows that the pollen from genetically modified corn was spread onto
milkweed that monarch butterflies eat, therefore killing the butterflies
that eat it.
The milkweed was not intended to be genetically modified, proving
that bacteria is spreading and harming other beings living here.
Another environmental concern is cross germination; because of
cross germination some weeds are becoming herbicide resistant.
As a result of this resistance food produces have to use highly
toxic chemicals to eliminate these “super weeds”.
The chemicals used to do this are harming ecosystems.
There are other environmental hazards of genetically modified foods
but most are unpredictable. |
