Home Syd Barrett Roger Waters David Gilmour Nick Mason

Richard William Wright was born in London on July 29, 1945.  Richard was raised in a wealthy family. In college Richard Wright hooked up with Roger Waters and Nick Mason to form a band, and six months later Syd Barrett joined them.  After Syd joined the band, Richard was quoted saying, “It was great when Syd joined.
Before him, we’d play the R&B classics, because that’s what all groups were supposed to do back then.  But I never liked R&B very much.  I was actually more of a jazz fan.  With Syd, the direction changed, it became more improvised around the guitar and keyboards.  Roger started playing the bass as a lead instrument and I started to introduce more of my classical feel.”
Richard was an important part of Pink Floyd throughout their long career. However, a little known fact is that just before Roger Waters left the band he got so mad at Richard that Roger refused to release The Wall unless Richard left the band.  Richard went on to play with Pink Floyd as a paid employee for two years until Roger eventually left Pink Floyd and then Richard rejoined David Gilmour and Nick Mason as a member of the current Pink Floyd trio.
Roger continues to tour with them today.  The band has returned to their co-operative spirit that they had gotten away from in the 1970’s.

Roger has co-written several of their most recent songs.  More importantly, as Roger says, “On this album the three of us actually played together.  It’s like the old Floyd again.”
