Pink Floyd is one of the most popular and unique rock bands of all time. Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nicholas Mason and Richard Wright created the phenomenon we know as Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd is known for their psychedelic sound; using wild instrumentals, incorporating electronic screeches and using such tricks as sliding a ball bearing down guitar strings. Pink Floyd gained a huge following when they began to use wild light shows in concert to add to their psychedelic sound. In the late 60’s Pink Floyd’s lead guitarist, lead singer, and primary songwriter, Syd Barrett, abandoned the group. Because of this their manager also left. Such problems would have caused many other bands to crumble; however, Pink Floyd went on to even greater success after Syd left. In 1973, five years after Syd left, Pink Floyd made one of their most successful albums ever, Dark Side of the Moon. Dark Side of the Moon stayed on the Billboard Charts amazingly for over 1,000 weeks straight, selling in excess of over 23 million copies worldwide. To this day it is the biggest selling album by a British band.
