David Gilmour was born in Cambridge, England on March 6, 1946.  David Gilmour is one of the world’s most popular guitarists.  His guitar solos are easily recognizable because of his distinctive sound.  He loves to collect guitars and has a great collection of guitars.

David Gilmour met Syd Barrett in college and they often spent their lunch hours listening to The Beatles, The Stones, and Elvis Presley.  After college Syd invited David to come and watch Pink Floyd perform.

Shortly after this Syd’s mental health went downhill and David was approached by Nick Mason to replace Syd in Pink Floyd.  This began a career with Pink Floyd that is still going strong today.

David Gilmour has been a great benefit to Pink Floyd and has been an important part on many of their biggest hits.  Some of David Gilmour’s highlights on Dark Side of the Moon are the big hits, Money and Time.

On the album Wish You Were Here, David Gilmour wrote one of his best songs, Shine On You Crazy Diamond.  This was written as a tribute to his old friend Syd Barrett.  David Gilmour continues to tour with the remaining members of Pink Floyd today, and they continue to be a successful band.
