| History
Crohn's Disease only was identified and named 70 years ago. Though records go back to 600 BC! It took several years to identify. First, Dr. Samual Wilks at Guys Hospital in 1859, lectured about a patient of his, and set the ball rolling. Then, in 1930, Dr. Burrill Crohn at Mount Sinsi Hospital received a 17-year-old patient with similar symptoms to Dr. Wilks. Dr. Crohn suspected that it was tubucularous infection, but the boy would not respond to any medication. A dangerous operation was the only was to find out what was wrong with the boy. It turned out, that the thing that was causing him pain was a small part of inflamed tissue in the ileum. The ileum is a part of the small intestine. Today, no one knows what causes it. By 1932, Dr. crohn searched out several more cases and presented this illness to American Medical Association in New Orleans. |
