Slashing - Slashing is when you take your stick and hit it against  someone else's body. Slashing would probably get you a 2 minute penalty or a 5 minute. Slashing your stick can hurt the player and yourself. it can hurt the player because you hit something against him. It can hurt you because you can break your stick.
Punching - Punching depends where it is. If it is in the hip part they probably won't count it. If it is in the face they would count it. Punching is either  min penalty or a game misconduct meaning you half to get undressed in the  locker room and sit on the bleachers or you half to go home and you can not play the next game but you can still sit on the bleachers and root on your team. These are some examples of Penalties used in the NHL.
Fighting - Fighting is a big penalty. Pretty much if you fight you are going t get a game miss conduct, and you half to leaf the rink, or you can get kicked out of the season by the referee. if you are in the third period and there is  10 minutes left and you start a fight the referee  will let you go until you stop fighting, but if the fight takes on for 10 min then they will break you up, but this is only in this periods. If you do it in the second you will get prettily up right away. Also in the third period you will just get sent to the penalty box for 2-5 minutes.  Dan Focht has the number one penalties for the 2003-2004 season and has the most minutes in the NHL, and is proud of it because that shows that the Penguins are very tough.
Cross check - cross checking is when yo hit and opponent with both hands on the stick and no parts of the stick on the ice. you usually get a 2-5 minutes penalty for that. Cross checking can be very dangerous because if you hit some body in the face 1 or 2 things. 1 you can break their mask, and 2 you can hit them by the chin and the mask will go off and then you will hit them again and it will be in the face for both of them.  Brooks has the least penalties for the Penguins and the least minutes for the NHL and is also proud of it because each time you get a penalty you get money taken off because you caused the team to loose a player and that is bad.
Kicking - kicking is a big penalty. if you kick someone your skate can g through their sock and into their leg and that wouldn't be so pleasing. if you would kick someone in the back of the leg they can fall down and you would get a 2-5 minutes penalty. if you give them a little kick then the referees will not call it but a big one will definitely be called and your skate could have blood on it. Ryan Malone is average because he can be very nice in hockey and he can be very aggressive and he is the most aggressive penguins on the team and he is proud of it because he is gettign paid a lot of money.
Shoving - Shoving is sort of like roughing it is when engaging in fist cuffs or shoving. You can really hurt somebody if you shove them in to the boards and their face goes n and you knock them out, or the wind takes you meaning you can't breath.
