Scent Earliest use for dogs was a hunting game for food. The ancients decided they needed a dog with a better scent. They developed a scent hound. Which is now known as a bloodhound. Then they needed the dog to have a great scent, small, and had great speed. They created a dog and now it is perfect for hunting.
Ears Beagles ears are long. Just because their ears are long doesn't mean it can block their hearing. Beagles can hear about 4 times better than humans can. Their hearing is good for hunting because they can hear where the animal is. It will make it easier for the hunter because they won't have to look as hard to find the animal.
Small The size of the beagle is perfect for hunting. It's not too big, not to small. It will make it easier to hunt. Just like beagles make it easier with their hearing, too. It will make if harder for the animal to notice them. It won't make the animal run away so they can catch it.
Fast Runners The beagle was made to be fast. They are very strong. The hips and thighs are well-muscled. That gives the beagle an abundance of propelling power. If they see a rabbit, deer, turkey, or any other kind of animal they will run as fast as they can to catch it.
Listens Good If you trained your beagle the proper way then it should listen good. If your dog isn't trained good for hunting then it could run loose. They will also choose an animal and never come back. It's important that when you go hunting your dog should know what he's doing and should listen to what you taught him. If you brought treats then your dog will listen extra carefully.
Commands You must have commands when you go hunting with your beagle. Also, they must know them very well or else they will run off somewhere. Before you go hunting, make sure they know all of the commands and that they respond well. You should have some commands like, "stay" and "come."
