Occurrence-
Hurricanes in the United States occur with greater frequency in the
temperate southern zone near the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico
than in other parts of the country. In a typical year more than a hundred
disturbances with the possibility of turning into a hurricane effect the
Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Generally only
ten of these become tropical storms and only six of them become
Hurricanes. During a relatively year, between 50 and 100 people may be
killed. Also millions of dollars worth of property destroyed.
Prevention- as the towns and cities of North America grow, so does the problems associated with Hurricanes. Once tranquil parries now busy suburbs. With houses that are so flimsy they could come crashing down any day. You can't stop a Hurricane from coming, but you can protect you and your family. You could board up buildings, bring everything inside that can blow away, and also collect water and food. Fill up the car with gasoline and be prepared to evacuate at any time if told so. |
