The general appearance or A K C breed standard. The Australian shepherd is an intelligent working dog of strong herding and guarding instincts. He is a loyal companion and has the stamina to work all day. He is well balanced, slightly longer than tall, with medium size of bone, with coloring that offers variety and individuality. He is attentive and animated, lithe and agile, solid and muscular without cloudiness. He has a coat of moderate length and coarseness. He has a docked or natural bobbed tail. |

When you compete you start in the novice class. That starts when your Aussie is around six months of age. Your dog must uphold the breed standard. If he/she doesn't you will be given a fault. That will lesson your chances of winning the show. If your dog seems good enough to a judge you will move up to the next class and maybe take best of show. This is very difficult. | |

To prepare for a show you should do
many things. First there are some simple commands that you should teach
your dog.
They are.......... trotting on a leash moving gracefully around the ring learn how to stack- that means to stand completely still. |

When you arrive at a show buy a catalogue. You can usually find it at the officials table. Check into the ring with a steward. Then give them your armband number. Do not be late to the ring. If you win be gracious and thank the judges. | |

Call the A. K. C to enter your dog in a show. You will not be able to compete in the show if not entered. | |
