A standard volleyball surface is eighteen meters long and nine meters wide. The net divides the court into nine meters by nine meters. Players of one team absolutely can not step onto the other teams side. The height of the net is two hundred thirty two centimeters. The front third of the court is the attack zone. The attack line is one third of the way up the court. The net is in the middle of the court called the center line
The back of the court is marked with the end line. The sides of the court are marked by the sidelines. Each team has six players on each side at all times. The court is then invisibly broken down with numbers for rotation purposes. The numbers are one through six. Number one serves. They stand is the back right corner.
Two, three, and four are front row players. Four is on the far left, (facing the net) three is in the middle, and two is on the far right. You rotate backwards (clockwise) so one goes to six who goes to five ect. Five, six, and one are back row players. One is in the back right, six is in the back center, and five is in the back left. Five, six, and one (the back row players) are mainly defense players. Four three and two (the front row players) are mainly offensive players. They can hit the ball from anywhere on the court. However in the back row there are some restrictions when back row players enter the attack zone.
But when the back row players are in the back row they have no restrictions. With the rotations they always go clock wise. The first hit is always defense. You try to keep the other team from getting a point. The second hit is a transition. The ball should be given to the setter to set the ball for the hitter to try to get a point. And the third and final hit should be the hitters spike. If all goes well and the play is done right then you should have scored a point and gotten possession.
