Arnold Palmer was born September 10, 1929, in Latrobe Pennsylvania. His nickname is Arnie and he was one of the most popular golfers in the ever. His father was a greens keeper, so he got Arnold playing golf at an early age. When he was young he used to sneak on to the golf course and practice chipping and putting. As a teenager, Arnie won five amateur titles. In 1951, he decided to join the U.S. Coast Guard and he served for three years.
His father was not only a greens keeper, but he also was a club professional. Arnold decided that he didn’t want to become a professional golfer yet, so that’s why he joined the U.S. Coastguard. He still liked playing golf though, sop he continued playing in tournaments. Later in 1954, he won the U.S. Amateur. He turned pro right after that victory.

Arnold decided then to hire a business manager which would help him concentrate on winning   more. The best aspects of his game were powerful drive and precision putting. As I said he  was very popular, his fans are known as “Arnie’s Army.” Sometimes he flew his own jet to tournaments and he really ‘spooked’ the host golf course when arriving.

Arnie made a ton of money from his victories and other things. He built a business empire which included of golf academies, equipment companies, clothing, and more. Like Jack Nicklaus, Arnie also dominated the PGA Tour, but it was in the 1960’s.

He won eight times in 1960 alone, including two majors, the U.S. Open and the Masters. Arnold Palmer will always be a legend to the game of golf because without him, golf wouldn’t be as popular as it is now. Also, he made opportunities for other golfers to join the PGA Tour
