History

Nobody really knows where Dalmatians came from. One hundred years ago there was a tomb with a Dalmatian on it. In Egypt some one saw a dog that kind of looked like a Dalmatian. In Germany, a painting shows him founding a spotted dog. Spotted dogs resemble this dog in Denmark. There is no known date in which the Dalmatian came to the United States. But we do know that he was here as early as the American Revolution.

Physical Description

Most Dalmatians look the same. Most of them are medium size dogs. Most adult dogs are twenty-two to twenty-four inches at the withers. The girl dog also known as the bitch is about one to two inches smaller than the male dog. The normal weight range is about forty-seventy pounds. There are two colors of a Dalmatian. One color is white with black spots and the other is white with liver\brown spots. The spots tend to be less than five centimeters. Each puppy gets half of its genes from its mother and half of its genes from its father. Dalmatians have short coats. Despite that they shed a lot each year. All Dalmatians are born all white and get their spots at a very young age.

Health

The vet is the first person you call if your dog is ill. You should have a first aid kit for your dog as you would humans. If your dog has a temperature of one hundred and one degrees to one hundred and two it is very ill. By two to three months you should start your dog on a regimen to control worms. You do it so early to protect the people in the house. Your puppies first vet check up should when the puppies is about six to eight weeks old. Every year your dog should get their check ups and shots. At two years old your vet would want dental cleanings. You would really want to try to keep your dog as healthy as possible.

Breeding

If your want to breed your dog make sure you are ready to have a litter of puppies. You will have to feed, groom, and housebreak the puppies. Make sure you want to know who select to mate with your girl dog. You should have a box or something with newspaper or blankets to have the puppies in. The best time to breed is the best time for you. You have to set some time to keep your dog calm and the puppies from crying. Do not sell your litter for at least six to eight weeks. The puppies will be due in about two months. For example: If you bred in January they will be born in March. Before breeding make sure your dog is in good condition. Make sure where ever the dogs are born the place is warm and dry. When the first puppy comes help your dog so she can be very comfortable. But all you do is just make sure your dog is happy and comfortable as possible.

Feeding/Grooming

To feed the puppies you have small portions at frequent intervals. You must make sure your puppy gains weight. With adult dogs they get a little more food than the puppy. They need to be fed at least four times a day. In the morning and evening offer kibble (dog meal). At noon and bedtime feed a bit of whole grain cereal moistened with milk. Food and water should be served at room temperature. With grooming your dog you should clean your dog at least once a week. You should either use a fairly stiff, natural bristle dog brush. If you wish you could have a hound glove. Dalmatians do not need frequent baths. If you do bathe your dog bathe with a mild soap. Be careful not to get the soap in their eyes or their ears. To clean the ears use a soft rag and gently run your finger through it. You could even have a groomer do it for you. But you have to have money to pay for it. Grooming is very important.

Exercise/Training

Exercising is very important for any dog. You can play, catch, go for walks, and take your dog to a dog park. You could even get your dog into shows. You can do jumping, running, and so on. They should exercise to be in shape and to feel good and have fun with it too. You should also have fun with it. For training your dog you should start out with it as a pup. If you need any help get some bookstore to help with you. If your dog does something good reward him. If he does something bad do not reward him. You can train them to do anything but make sure you reward him.
