Cardinals? Well the Cards weren’t able to pitch to the Boston Redsox.
With Manny Ramirez catching on fire during the series and David Ortiz
being his normal amazing self there was no way the Redsox could be beat.
Also when the Cards thought the inning was finished with two outs they
were wrong because that is when the Boston Redsox do their best work.
The Redsox best hitter was probably not what you would except with two
outs, and that is the one and only Johnny Damon. Johnny Damon is the
best in the league at scoring and hits with two outs. So when so Damon
was up at bat with two outs it was almost like an automatic hit for the
Redsox. What happened is the Cardinals only had one person who played in
the American League and even he couldn’t stop the Boston hitters. So
it was like when the Cards entered the series they had no chance.

The Cardinals weren’t able to pitch well either with Matt Morris there
best pitcher not pitching well the Cards weren’t able to stop the
hitting of the Boston Redsox. The Cardinals also had another pitcher
that wasn’t able to stop the Redsox. His name is Woody Williams. His
earn run average was so high that even the sports annalist had trouble
believing it. |

| Even
when the Cardinals tried to hit the ball they missed. The Cards heart of
the lineup was the worst problem for the Cards because Edgar Renteria,
Albert Pulos, and Scott Rolen weren’t able to hit. Those three players
went one for twenty-one in the series. The Redsox pitching was fantastic
in the series verses the St. Louis Cardinals. With Pedro pitching to
perfection and Curt Schilling to follow him up in the next game it was
kind of unbearable. Also you can’t forget Tim Wakefield. The
Knuckballer was a big part of the Cards down fall. Tim Wakefield was
fantastic in the win verses the Yanks and the main reason probably that
the Cards played the Boston Redsox. No one could hit Wakefield and they
could barely catch a little bit of the ball including the Boston Redsox
catcher Jason Varatick. So with out the Cards hitting they couldn’t
get runs and with out runs you can’t win. |
|
Also
before the Cards got to the World Series they had a tough encounter with
the Houston Astros. The Astros had almost pulled off an amazing come
back, but they couldn’t seem to pull a rabbit out of their hat in the
last game. So the St. Louis Cardinals were kind of cold entering the
series. The Boston Redsox felt the cool breeze from the Cards and
didn’t get to light a fire for when they tried the Redsox froze them
into a very deep sleep. |
