Sir Dudley Majoribanks was the first person to bring to Golden Retriever over to the US from Russia. They were founded in Britain in the 19th century. The original retrievers were mixed with Setters, Newfoundlands, and Spaniels. Sir Dudley brought a yellow retriever named Nous in 1865 and bred him to, now what is an extinct breed, a Tweed Water Spaniel, named Belle. |

They are part of the Sporting Group. They can get Arthritis which is when the joints inflame because of infectious causes. They especially get it because they are active and want to play a lot. |

They can also get many other medical problems such as epilepsy which is where the dog has seizures. There are three states of epilepsy. They are pre-seizure, seizure, and post-seizure. Pre-seizure is when the dog will seem restless, and will pace. Seizure is when the actual seizure occurs. They will also have vomiting, running around in circles, and they may collapse. Post-seizure is when the dog may seem disoriented, uncoordinated and maybe even having some blindness. It can last from minutes to hours to days. |

Feeding requirements are that they need puppy food until they are 18-24 months old because Golden Retrievers don't mature until that age. They will need adult food after that. They need special nutrients and vitamins since they are so active and energetic. |

Puppies will especially need good dog food because they can get medical problems and they can get sick easier if they have a bad dog food. Same goes with older dogs because their systems start to shut down, therefore they need the vitamins to keep their systems going for as long as they can go.
