What is Ventriloquism?

Ventriloquism is speaking without lip movement.  Ventriloquists will have a puppet or a vent figure.  They get up in front of an audience and make it seem like the doll comes to life.

 

What is a Vent Figure?

A vent figure is a dummy that ventriloquist uses to entertain people.  The reason dummies is called “vent figure” is because “dummy” is not a correct word.  However, most people think it is.

 

 

Why should I learn this?

You are probably wondering “why?” should I be a ventriloquist.  Well, did you ever visit a hospital and see how grim and sad everyone is?  How some patients wonder if they will get out of the hospital soon?  Don’t you wish you could make them happy?  Well, if you learn ventriloquism, you can!  There are many benefits and you could be happy, too!

 

 

How can ventriloquists throw their voice?

Ventriloquists CANNOT throw their voices.  It’s an illusion, like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat.  The three most important things to the illusion is:

1.      No lip movement from the ventriloquist

2.      The vent figure’s lips move (the distraction).

3.      A voice contrast between the ventriloquist and the vent figure.

 

 

Is ventriloquism the most simple form of poetry?

Yes, it is.  All you need is your vent figure and a chair and you are ready to perform.

 

 

Are people born with the talent of ventriloquism?

No, it is an acquired skill.  You need to study and practice.  The three most important words in ventriloquism are practice, practice, and practice.!
