Jupiter is the fifth and largest planet in our solar system. Named for the ruler of gods in Roman mythology. Jupiter is 318 times that of Earth. Jupiter is 484 million miles away from the sun. Jupiter takes 11.9 years to make a revolution and 9 hours 55 minutes to make a rotation. Jupiter's diameter is 88,673 miles. The difference from Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune from Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars is that the first four planets are made of rock, and the last four are made of gas. Pluto is an exception because it is made of rock, gas, and ice. |

Saturn is mostly mace up of hydrogen. Saturn is the second largest planet and the sixth planet from from the sun. Known for its vast rings, which are made up of ice particles and gases. There are seven major rings. Saturn is 890 million miles away from the sun. It takes Saturn 29.6 years to make a revolution and 10 hours 40 minutes to make a rotation. Saturn's diameter is 74,500 miles and its mass is 95 times that of earth. Saturn has more than 20 moons and their diameters range from 12 to 3200 miles. |

Uranus is the seventh planet in the solar system. Its blue-green color comes from its methane gas present in its cold, clear atmosphere. Like Saturn, Uranus has 5 rings named Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon named after the first 5 letters in the Greek alphabet. Then, Voyager 2 discovered 4 more moons were discovered in 1986. Uranus also has 15 moons. Uranus is 1.7 billion miles from the sun and its diameter is 31,500 miles. Uranus takes 84.6 years to make a revolution and 17 hours 15 minutes to make a rotation. Uranus's mass is 14 times that of Earth. |

Neptune is the fourth largest planet. In Roman mythology, Neptune was a brother with Uranus and Pluto. Neptune is 2.8 billion miles from the sun and has a diameter of 30,200 miles. It takes Neptune 165.5 years to complete a revolution and about 16 hours to make a rotation. Neptune's mass is 17 times that of Earth. The temperature of Neptune is -360ºF. Neptune's atmosphere consists of hydrogen and helium, but the presence of three percent methane gives its sticking blue color. Neptune also has eight moons. |

Pluto is the farthest and smallest planet in our solar system. Pluto is 3.7 billion miles from the sun and has a diameter of 1,860 miles. It takes 248 years to make a revolution and it takes 6.4 days to make a rotation. Pluto's mass is 0.002 times that of Earth. Its atmosphere is made up of methane. Pluto has one moon called Charon. The moon is about half the size of Pluto. Scientists believe that Pluto was one of Neptune's moons and was knocked into a separate orbit. The collision dust and lighter materials would have made Charon. |

As you know, all of these planets are way to cold to live on. Jupiter's temperature is can go as low as -193ºF but can raise to 63ºF. Saturn's temperature is about -285ºF. Uranus's temperature is -357ºF and Neptune's as low as -360ºF. Pluto's temperature is so low it is-367ºF. Also, most of the gases located on the planets will kill you. |
