The king of rock and role This web page will take you from his birth, to his first record company,
to his army days, to his movie and record career then to his untimely
death in 1977. Elvis
aron presley was born on January 8th 1935 in a small house in
Tupelo Mississippi. His brother Jessie garon was a still born at birth
thus leaving Elvis to grow up as an only child. His parents Gladus and
Vernon Presley bought Elvis a guitar at a hardware store in tupelo thus
leading to what would become one of if not the greatest singers of all
time. Elvis and his family moved from tupelo to Memphis, Tennessee in
1948. Later graduating from humes high school in 1953. After high school
Elvis was hired as a truck driver with crown electric making 35 dollars
a week. In 1945 Elvis began his singing career with sun record label in
Memphis Elvis recorded his first song “that’s all right mama” in
July of 1954 the beginning
of a great career. Elvis would later say that he got his rythem from the
gospel music he seen at church. His favorite was Mississippi slim. Sun
records sold Elvis’s recording contract to R.C.A victor for 25,000
dollars in late 1955. The next year Elvis would be known world wide. In
march of 1956 Elvis would hire colonel tom parker to be his manager. In
1956 Elvis would record his first of many number one hits with heart
break hotel. He would later record four more number one hits that same
year. Including I WANT YOU,I NEED YOU ,I LOVE YOU. DON’T BE
CREUL,HOUND DOG AND LOVE ME TENDER which would be the name of Elvis’s
first movie. The first of 33 movies many of which Elvis did not want to
do, but was under contractual obligations that colonel tom parker had
made with the movie companies. Many of Elvis’s movies were based on
titles of his number one hits. In total Elvis would have over 30 number
one hits, with over 149 singles and albums released.
