Wrestling has been popular throughout recorded history. Origins of the sport 15,000 years through depictions in cave drawing in France. Early Egyptian and Babylonian relics depict wrestling using most of the holds known to the  present day sport. in ancient Grease, wrestling occupied a prominent place in legend and culture. Wrestling was a brutal competition in many aspects and was the supreme contest in the Olympic games. The Romans barrowed heavily from Greek wrestling, but eliminated  much of its brutality.

            During the middle ages wrestling remained popular and was enjoyed by many royal Houses, including those of France, England, and Japan.

             Early American settlers brought a strong wrestling tradition with them from England. The colonist also Found wrestling to be popular among Indians. Armature wrestling flourished throughout early years of the U.S. and served as a popular activity at county fairs, holiday celebrations, and in military exercises.

             The first organized national wrestling tournament was held in New York city, New York in 1888, while the first in the Olympics was in 1904 in St. Louis, Missouri. The first NCAA wrestling championships was held in 1912 in Ames, Iowa. USA wrestling became the national governing body of armature wrestling in 1983. now wrestling is still very popular and is a sport that fascinates the whole world.
