Also another useful skill dogs provide for us is mountain rescue. This is where they are trained to search for people  who have been in an avalanche.  St. Bernard's and the Great Pyrenees make good search and rescue dogs . One reason is because they love the snow.

Every got caught in a ripe current and couldn't get out? Most likely you haven't! But if you did I bet you thought you'd die, but then all of a sudden you looked in front of you and you saw a dog coming. Dogs such as Newfoundland's are very common for water rescue.

Another way dogs help us is by protecting us.  This is very important because it could make the difference between life and death. I would know because my dog saved me from a deer attack and if she wasn't there I might not be here today. You can get your dog trained for self defense so that you will have protection from criminals or other animals.

Finally the last thing I will tell you about is hunting dogs. Hunting dogs  such as the bloodhound , Labs, Beagles, and retrievers have the greatest sense of smell. 

Therefore when you shoot game your dog will watch and wait and then wait for your command so that it can go and retrieve the animal. Or they will use their noses to scent or find the animal.
