Professional dirtbike riding has become a nationally recognized sport, and has become a key part to the extreme sorts competition, "X games".  Of course, there are different levels of skill in whech riders compete, but only the best of the professionals can make it to the X games.  There are two main types of competition that these pros compete in: Freestyle and Motocross.

Freestyle

Freestlyle is a type of competition in which riders launch from jumps and attempt to do the best single trick, or group of tricks and have the best run.  Many riders gain worldwide acclaim from this competition, due to the sheer difficulty of the tricks they do,  Many riders push the envelope and create new, more astounding tricks.  Some of the most difficult tricks are the backflip and the 360.  Before last summer's X games, the 360 was deemed impossible by many experts, but Brian Deegan landed it against all the odds.

Motocross

Motocross is simply a race through a course filled with jumps, hills, and sharp turns.  These races can have up to 20 or more riders in them, and are always competitive and fun to watch.  Many freestyle riders such as Travis Pastrana, Kenny Bartram, and Jeremy McGrath got their start in motocross, and Pastrana still races.  James "bubba" stewart is one of the most talented racers in the sport today, and he seldomly loses a race.  Motocross races are held in nearly every level of dirtbikes, from 50cc's to 400cc's.  Motocross will always be a favorite of many riders.
