This beautiful, large dog originated in France.  They are working dogs and walk the perimeter of their territory, barking  every few paces to guard their family.  Pyrenees usually live for about ten years.
They are white with some gray, a mixture of white, gray, brown, and different shades of tan.  However, pure white is most commonly wanted.
Their hair is long and fluffy, protective against cold, wind, and  rain.  Males are about twenty-seven to thirty-two inches and one hundred and on hundred thirty pounds.  Females are much smaller, measuring twenty-five to twenty-nine inches and eighty-five to one hundred ten pounds.
Many people wonder if this huge dog is safe with children.  The answer is yes, but watch them over when they play.  The Great Pyrenees is also great with other animals, but a dog the same size might be threatening, and the Pyrenees will try to regain dominance.
The main health problems in this dog are hip dysphasia, luxating patellas, and bone cancer.  To ensure that your dog will be safe from encountering these diseases
at a young age, give it a firm but loving hand and respect its intelligence.  The dog will be less stressed and less prone to illnesses.
Also, it is a good idea to brush it  regularly and clip its claws to keep it looking nice.
