The Golden Retriever originated from Scotland.  It is a sporting dog and bred for hunting and show.  Goldens live around ten to twenty years.
A Golden Retriever's coat is gold in various shades.  It is thick and water repellent.
It has a natural ruff around its neck and feathered layers on the back of its forelegs and tail.  Males are usually twenty-three to twenty-five inches and sixty-five to seventy-five pounds.  Females are twenty-one to twenty-two inches and fifty-five to sixty-five pounds.
Golden Retrievers are great with children and pets.  They love to play and protect their family.  They especially love to be the center of attention.
Golden Retrievers can get serious

illnesses however, hip

dysphasia and

cataracts are commonly

found in Goldens.  To keep

them safe and happy

keep them indoors, but with lots of outdoor activity.  If you are allergic to dogs, do not get a Golden Retriever. They shed their hair often, but if you brush it regularly, the amount of hair shed is reduced.  For show, you could also trim the excess hair around their feet.
If you want to adopt a Golden Retriever, they are very easy to train and as an adult, are usually calm
and very easy to deal with.  If you want a Golden, contact the Golden Retriever Club of America (800)  632-5155 or go to www.grca-nrc.org
