Growing Up

 His Success

When Usher got to Atlanta he entered the "Atlanta Talent Search Contest." Not only did he win the contest, he was spotted by an LA Face record executive. Usher's career then took off. He was only fourteen years old when he auditioned for LA Face co-founder, LA Reid. LA Reid signed Usher a recording contract. He released his first CD in 1994, titled "Usher." The producer of this CD was Sean "P. Diddy" Combs. The album didn't do very well, though. P. Diddy didn't want Usher singing about kid stuff, so he had him sing about things most kids Usher's age couldn't relate too. His first single off the album, "Think of You," made Usher rise to the top. He was asked to do many other projects after that.

After Usher graduated high school, Usher released his second album in 1997, titled "My Way." He co-wrote six of the nine songs. The album's first single, "You Make Me Wanna", made Usher rise to one of R&B's hottest artists. The song topped the R&B charts for eight weeks. Usher also started acting. He was in the movie "The Faculty" and in the movie "Light It Up." Usher's third album, "8701", was released in 2001.  The title was based on the day it was released. He won a Grammy for the album. His most recent album, "Confessions", was his most successful album yet. It sold over 1.1 million copies within the first week. Usher co-wrote several of the songs on it. As you can see, Usher's career is going well.
