Roberto Clemente Roberto Clemente was an amazing ball player. He was also a nice guy off the field. He was number 21 and he played right field for the Pirates. He hit his 3,000th hit at Three Rivers Stadium against the Mets Jon Matlack. That also was his last hit. Eleven months after he hit his 3,000th hit he died in a plane crash while giving medical supplies to Nicaragua. In 1973, Clemente was inducted into the Hall of Fame without waiting the normal five years.

Babe Ruth People say that Babe Ruth is the greatest ballplayer that ever lived. He played for the Redsox but got traded to the Yankees. At first he was a pitcher but got into the outfield. The Bambino hit 60 homeruns in 1927 wich was a record until Roger Maris broke it in 1961. The Babe also held the record for career homers of 714 until Hammering Hank Aaron shattered the record. The great Bambino died in 1948 at the age of 53. |

Willie Stargell Willie Stargell was one of the best players the Pittsburgh Pirates ever had. He took part in helping the Pirates win two World Series. He wore the number 8 and was called "Pops." He played left field and first base. Willie was also a good person. When he hit a homerun he would give away free chicken at his restaurant. "Pops" Stargell died April 2000 of a stroke. |

Warren Spahn Warren Spahn is one of the best pitures the Braves ever had. Warren played his first profesinal season at the age of 19. 8 years later he won his first World Series. On September 16, 1960 Warren threw his first of two no hitters and 300 came in 1961. Although Spahn had three knee surgeries during his career he kept in shape by swimming and working on his ranch. He ended his career with 363 victories the highest for a lefthander and fifth-best in history. |
