The game traces back to the Mayans.  The ball was made out of animal skins.  After it was stuffed with straw or dried grass.  In the 1500s, the ball was made by solid rubber.  Some religions believed the ball was the sun and the goal was to hit trees and plants, which were believed to grow in the upcoming months.
  The creators of football were the Mayans.  Football was formed from the British game of Rugby.  The Mayans created the form of the football.  Football was a religious game in the 1500s.  Mayans would play football only in the mornings, since they believed that's when their crops grew.

                                                        

 The Super Bowl is where football teams battle it out for the trophy.  The man who created the Super Bowl was Pete Rozelle.  The trophy was named after Vince Lombardi, the Green Bay Coach who lead them to 5 NFL titles in the 1960s.  The football on the trophy was designed by Tiffany's Oscar Reidener in 1966.
The reason for this very popular game was to prepare for war in Rome and Greece.  It was a hobby in Britain, Norway, and America.  After 2 years, Rome banned football for war, the leader thought his warriors were weak and had to prepare for war. 
      There were many plays that changed history.  One play, Garo's Goof, was one of the most famous plays. Miami was ahead 14-0 against Washington.  The kicker tried for a field goal, but had the kick blocked.  Garo, being a rookie, tried to throw it, but fumbled it and Washington scored a touchdown.

Some teams in the NFL had a more interesting history than others.  The Pittsburgh Steelers have had an outstanding past in the NFL.  They had one of the best defenses, called the "Steel Curtain."  Also their offence was unstoppable, with the receiver Lynn Swann.
