Gene Simmons is the bass player for KISS. He has been the bassist for all the years KISS has been together. Gene Simmons was born Chaim Witz on August 25, 1945 in Haifa, Israel.
In 1955, his parents divorced. Then, in 1958, he and his mother emigrated to Brooklyn, NY. When he was young, he was very interested in comics and superheros. In 1967, He bought a $50 Segova Bass. It was a Japanese model of Paul McCartney's bass.
In one of their bands, Bullfrog Bheer, the guitar player got sick. They needed as fast substitute. His friend knew someone who knew someone who would play. His name was Stanley Eisen., Soon to be Paul Stanley. Gene Simmons is one of the main writers of KISS songs. Some of his best are "Got Love for Sale" and "Christine Sixteen" from Love Gun, "Calling Dr. Love" from Rock and Roll Over, "Deuce" from KISS, and "You Wanted the Best" from Psycho Circus. Gene has recently released a new solo album over the summer. He has also written a few books including KISS and Makeup.
KISS and Makeup was released in  2001 and it's about the life of Gene Simmons and his life with KISS. Gene and KISS are still touring. But, Ace Frehley is currently out of the band. So, Tommy Thayer stepped in on lead guitar.               
Though, he was never in KISS, he has been there to help along the way. Peter Criss is no longer in KISS either. So, KISS drummer Eric Singer has replaced him. He was in KISS from 1992 to 1996. He also played in Black Sabbath. The 2004 Rock the Nation Tour just concluded a little while ago.
